Pollster, Ben Ephson says the revamping of the Akwatia diamond industry will enhance the electoral fortunes of Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal. Baba Jamal has contested the Akwatia Parliamentary seat three times and lost on all occasions to candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Baba in his campaign for the seat in 2008, promised to revamp the then Ghana Consolidated Diamonds Company when the NDC was voted to power. True to his the word, the Deputy Information Minister has facilitated the re-opening of the defunct company that used to employ over a thousand people. Giving insights into whether the re-opening of GCD could translate into votes in the 2012 general elections, Ben Ephson told Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem Wednesday that the development will enhance the electoral fortunes of Baba Jamal. However, he said, Ghanaians do not vote based on party manifesto but on basic issues, adding that only a few people read party manifestoes. The revamped mine has been awarded to Great Consolidated Diamonds Company Limited. Ben Ephson maintained that floating voters, who decide the winner in general elections, first consider if basic amenities have been provided and if 2012 was better than 2008 when they voted the NDC into power.
