The U-15 and U-18 sides of Right to Dream Soccer Academy have presented the trophies they won on their recent European tour to Portugal, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
The U-15 side triumphed in the Marveld International Tournament, beating Arsenal FC 4-0 in the Final.
The elite youth football tournament took place from 29th to the 31st of May in the town of Groenlo in the Netherlands. It featured twelve of the top U-15 academy teams from around the globe.
Having finished top of their group with victories over Manchester United, PSV and Feyenoord Rotterdam, Right to Dream beat Ajax on penalties to secure their place in the Final. This is the 26th year of the Marveld Tournament.
The U-18s were equally as dominant, recording 14 victories in 14 games. The 15 students, overseen by Head Coach, Frazer Robertson, were on an eight-week tour to the UK and Portugal playing against some top Academy teams, including Benfica and Chelsea.
It is the third international tour undertaken by the Academy since the announcement of a 3-year partnership with Tullow Ghana in March 2014.
The General Manager of Tullow Oil Ghana, Mr Charles Darku lauded the players for the exceptional performances they put in on their trip which culminated in their winning of the highly coveted youth tournaments.
For him, Ghana is blessed with abundant football talent and Tullow was delighted to partner such an organization which had contributed significantly to developing young talents who have gone on to feature for the various national teams including Abdul Majeed Waris and David Accam of the Black Stars and Yaw Yeboah who was a big part of the Ghana’s Black Satellites at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The skipper of the U-18 team, Collins Tanor was full of praise of his colleagues for their exemplary performances and also used the opportunity to thank the technical team of the Academy for their excellent training methods and tuition which has seen them come this far in their careers.
The CEO and youth football visionary Tom Vernon touched on the academy’s model of combining education and sports which give selected players a second chance to improve their lives if their football careers do not go as planned and also become better players.
The academy continues to churn out highly skilled young ladies and young men who have grown into iconic players both on the local and international scene and these latest success stories is set to spur them on to achieve more for the academy and the players at large.
