Ghanaian mobile phone and computer assembling firm, rlg Communications, has appointed David Afugani as Chief Operating Officer to oversee its West African operations.
He will work closely with the various rlg Country Directors with oversight responsibility of their commercial functions as well as oversee the setting up of full-scale operations in various markets in the sub-region.
The appointment, according to Group Chairman, Roland Agambire, is in line with the company’s drive to grow its market, re-engineer its processes and streamline the business structure.
Apart from its Ghana operations, rlg is in the Gambia and Nigeria, with plans to expand to Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia.
Until the new appointment, David Afugani, was the Chief Commercial Officer, Rlg Ghana. He has been with the company since 2010, designing and spearheading the company’s sales, marketing and distribution strategy and succeeded in building a strong brand.
David started his commercial career in 2003 as a Trade Marketing Representative with British American Tobacco Ghana and rose through the ranks to become an Area Sales Manager for northern Ghana.
He later joined Diageo Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) as a Field Sales Manager in 2006 and promoted to the position of Sales Operations Manager in charge of administration and coordination of the sales and operations functions across the three GGBL plants at Achimota, Kaase and Ahinsan.
He resigned to join Zain Ghana to begin a new career in telecommunications; starting as Regional Manager in charge of Southern Ghana, and later seconded to a number of operating countries including Kenya, Uganda and Sierra Leone.
He rose to the position of National Sales Manager before resigning to join Rlg as the Chief Commercial Officer in 2010.
David holds a Bachelors Degree in Management Studies from the University of Cape Coast and is currently pursuing an MSc in Marketing from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
