This year’s edition of the Annual Film Lecturers of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) will take place in Accra between 13 and 17th of this month with the ICT device assembling firm, Rlg Communications Limited as the headline and sole sponsor. The annual event which is in its third year is intended to provide platform for all players connected to film-making to explore ways of improving quality while projecting the developmental values in cinematography. The week-long event which will include film shows, lectures, colloquial, dialogues, workshops and panel discussions is expected to be climaxed with an awards ceremony to recognize the legendary achievements of one of Ghana’s foremost Cinematographers and Film Administrators, Rev. Dr. Chris Hesse. Previous events have recognized the works of celebrated Film Director and Script writer, Kwaw Ansah and octogenarian Film Producer, Director and Writer, King Ampaw. A statement issued in Accra by the Corporate Affairs Manager of Rlg, Emmanuel Arthur said as the official cameraman of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and later as Managing Director of the Ghana Film Industry Corporation, Rev. Dr. Chris Hesse will be remembered for the production of many classical documentaries and movies including the well-known, “The boy Kumasenu”. “This support forms part of a bigger plan to assist the creative industry and we are convinced that by this, we will be aiding the use of the arts to promote development in our country”, the statement quotes the company’s Head of Legal & Corporate Affairs and Executive Secretary to the Chairman of AGAMS Holdings, Prosper Harrison Addo as saying. NAFTI is the foremost specialized tertiary institution dedicated to the training of high caliber professionals in the film and creative industry in sub-Sahara Africa. It has trained many professionals from countries across the continent and is currently the Regional Center for the Study of Animation in Africa.
