Road crashes killed 181 people the Brong-Ahafo Region from January to September, Mr Agyabeng Mensah Abrampa, the Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission said on Wednesday.
He told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Sunyani that the number of deaths recorded this year reduced slightly as compared to the 2014 death toll of 206 within the same period.
Mr Abrampa said the region had so far recorded 482 cases of accidents this year involving 682 vehicles and 699 injured victims.
He appealed to the media to intensify road safety education and an effective collaboration between the commission and its key stakeholders to reduce accidents.
The Regional Manager said human error is the major identifiable cause of the crashes and appealed to drivers to avoid over-speeding and drunk-driving.
Mr Abrampa explained that the commission and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service and the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority would intensify enforcement of road safety regulation at most accident prone roads and highways in the region.
He advised drivers to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles.
