Transit and truck drivers are being sensitized on road use, axle load and police and customs rules in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
The Ghana Road Transport Governance Project aims to improve the sustainability and security of the regional road transport system.
It is implemented by the Ministry of Roads and Highways with funding from the European Union.

The partner agencies and transport sector operators have been working together for the past two years to reduce road transport costs and reinforce compliance with road regulations.
The transit and truck drivers are engaged in the harmonization and simplification of transport regulations.

Chief Engineer at the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Miss Effuah Effah, says the European Union's assistance comes at the best time to support the update of the drivers’ regulatory guide.
“We are grateful for the support we’ve had from the E.U. Their support comes at the best time. The moment we really need to make amends” she said.

She highlighted the benefit the updated drivers’ regulatory guide would have on the road transport.
“This will help reduce several unwarranted road activities. We are empowering drivers to know the regulations associated with their daily activities” she added.

Chairman of Holy Transport Drivers and Training Center, Alhaji Yakubu Abdullai, said the workshop would help enhance the knowledge of transport operators on road usage.
“This stakeholders engagement will help drivers know the road regulations. It will let us know what we have to do and what we must not do” he indicated.
