The Juaso police in Ashanti on Tuesday killed one armed robber and arrested another at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District following a gun battle with seven armed robbers.
A driver and his mate who sustained gunshot wounds inflicted on them by the robbers are receiving treatment at the Juaso District Hospital while police make effort to arrest the remaining five who fled into a nearby bush.
The robbers mounted a road block at the Breku section of the Kumasi/Accra highway around 0230 hours and robbed passengers of their monies and other property.
Superintendent of Police Francis Oppong, Juaso District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that he received a call from an informant that armed robbers had attacked drivers and passengers at the outskirts of Breku.
He said the robbers had fled when the police got to the scene and the police conveyed the wounded driver and his mate to the hospital.
Mr Oppong said moments after the police had returned to the police station, they received information that the robbers were on motorbikes heading towards Kumasi.
He said the police laid ambush at the Juaso junction where a gun battle ensued between them and the robbers leading to the death of one of the robbers.
Among the items retrieved from the robbers were two motorbikes, two SB short guns, three locally-manufactured pistols, two knives, three mobile phones and a cash of GH¢654.Source: GNA
