Farmers who will participate in this year’s National Food and Agricultural Show ( FAGROW) will have the opportunity to be exposed to the latest technology on global agriculture.
Organizers of the Fair which is expected be opened on November 12, 2014 at the Cultural Center in Kumasi, have invited a top American farmer Roger Johnson to lead the planned agro-technology exchange session.

The exhibition will be opened by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s representative, Akyempimhene Oheneba Adusei Poku.
The fair has attracted over 50 local and international exhibitors from USA, Brazil, Spain, Nigeria and Burkina-Faso.
The exhibitors are mainly from various sectors including manufacturing, Tractor and Equipment, Livestock and Poultry Equipment, Dryers, Silos and Fertilizers, who will display a wide range of products and services.
This was announced by the exhibition Director FAGRO, Alberta Akosa on Wednesday, November 5, in Accra.
Ms Alberta Akosa said Mr Johnson, representing the National Farmer Union( NFU) as a guest of honour at this year’s FAGRO, will address farmers and stakeholders at a lecture on the topic, “Changing Attitudes: Taking Agric as a Business.”
“Mr Johnson will also pay courtesy calls on key government officials, diplomats, educationists and stakeholders in the agric sector,” she said.
Ms Akosa noted that farmer organizations in Ghana could learn from the NFU by uniting to form a mother union to serve as a strong force in the country’s agricultural sector and playing a vital role in policies and legislation regarding farmers and the agric industry.
Apart from meeting the farmers and stakeholders, Roger Johnson is likely to share his long term experience with participants in which he will focus on adoption of appropriate technologies such as irrigation, green housing and seedlings that seek to increase yields and also discuss how to avoid risks in the agric sector.
However, the issues of climate change, post harvest losses and inappropriate farm management are among the major topics to be discussed during the fair.
She said all the farmer associations across the country are invited to participate in the 3 day fair.
According to her, the participation of Roger Johnson was an eye opener for Ghanaian farmers as she believes it will impact positively on activities of the farmers.
Prior to leading the family farm organization, Mr. Johnson, a third- generation farmer from Turtle Lake, served as North Dakota Agricultural commissioner.
However, Mr. Johnson served on the State Industrial Commission at North Dakota Trade Advisory Board office and also of the State Board of Agricultural Research and Education.
From 2007-2008, Mr. Johnson served as president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture and a past president of the Midwestern Association of State Department of Agriculture.
The fair has far registered a number of local and international exhibitors. It is under the Theme: Sustainable Agricultural Growth and Development: Reducing Risk.
