Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has been honoured by the Accra branch of internationally acclaimed Rotary Club for contributing towards Ghana’s movie industry and society in general.
She was presented framed certificates at a ceremony dubbed Time With Lydia Forson at the Maxlot Hotel in Accra on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by majority of the club’s members.
Lydia is an actress with few movie credits but is still relevant in the growing movie industry.
She rose through the ranks from being an actress to a producer. She is currently endearing herself to the public as a very good orator and a great social commentator.
The Rotary recognition comes in the wake of attacks on her personality for asking the President of Ghana, John Mahama, to fix Ghana’s current energy crisis popularly called “dumsor.”
She and fellow actress Yvonne Nelson have been labelled prostitutes by one Alhaji Halidu Haruna, a presidential staffer in the ruling National Democratic Congress. But such comments appear not to have deterred the ladies.
At the ceremony, Lydia gave a talk on her career as an actress and also the challenges she has faced. After that, members of the club also asked questions and she took time to answer them before she was finally honoured.
One of the interesting questions that came up at the ceremony was why she doesn’t focus on being an actress but meddles in other public issues.
But she told them she is a Ghanaian and nothing stops her from letting people know her perspective on issues of national importance.
