April 24, 2011 marked the 25th Anniversary of Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central (RRC), a milestone in Rotary history and 25 years of exceptional community service which has been of high value to various communities across Ghana.
Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, sponsored by Rotary Club of Accra West, received its charter on 24th April 1986. With 33 Charter members at the time, the club has evolved over the years and its membership base has always been strong with an average of over 30 core members.
The charter President at the time was the late Dr. Banful and there has since been a succession of presidents who have all propelled the club forward; each adding on to what has been done previously and pushing the Rotary wheel ahead.
Current President Galina Okartei-Akko in her address to the club urged members to use this occasion to commit to the motto of Rotary “service above self” and to continue working hard towards the success of the club!
“Rotary club of Accra RRC is 25 years but we are a young club in Rotary which is over a century old. Rotary International currently has a population of 1.2 million members and 'Service above self' conveys the humanitarian spirit of Rotarians everywhere. Let us all continue to contribute to meaningful community and international service projects to improve the lives of the less privileged.”
A fundraising dinner dance is being planned for June 2011 and the proceeds will be used to continue phase II of the club's current community school building project at Asempanaye in the Eastern region.
