Former Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kojo Bonsu, has asked the Ghana Football Association to sack Black Stars Coach, Milovan Rajevac, and appoint the Technical Director of Liberty Professionals, Sellas Tetteh, to lead the senior national team.
His call comes after Ghana suffered a disastrous 2021 AFCON defeat in Cameroon where the senior national team exited the tournament at the group phase, failing to record a single win at the continental showpiece.
Speaking to Stephen Zando of LUV FM in Kumasi, the former KMA Boss indicated that Ghana's preparation towards the cup of nations was rather problematic.
“The issue is that our preparation towards the cup of nations was totally nil,” he observed. “We wasted money, went to Qatar, the boys were not conditioned. How can you win a match, 88th minute then you lose the game?”
The former NSA boss called on Ghanaians to remain calm and not kill the spirit of the team but insisted, Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac must be fired for spearheading Ghana’s poor show at the tournament.
Kojo Bonsu has recommended the appointment of a local coach.
He specifically named Sellas Tetteh who led Ghana’s U-20 team to a World Cup title in 2009 as the one who must be appointed as he believes he can do the job.
“I think we shouldn’t make too much noise to bring the team down. What we have to do is even though we have lost, Rome was not built in a day.
“We should work on it, sack the coach I believe and, get a local coach and I will recommend somebody like Sellas Tetteh because he knows all the local boys. He can bring them together and we should play about 10 friendly matches because the world cup is our ultimate and if we qualify for the world cup, the whole country will be excited,” he added.
The Black Stars of Ghana ended the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on a disappointing note after losing 3-2 against debutants Comoros on Tuesday.
The team had lost 1-0 against Morocco in the first game and played 1-1 with Gabon in the second game, painfully exiting the competition at group stage for the first time since 2006.
