The next salary negotiation of unionized workers not covered by the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) would be based on the annual base pay of 1,108 point 08 Ghana Cedis of the SSSS, Mr Ellis Ankomah, Western Regional Secretary of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), said on Tuesday.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Takoradi, he said the base pay would be taken into consideration during negotiations of collective bargaining agreements so that unionized workers would benefit from the SSSS.
Mr Ankomah said the accounts departments of public sector institutions need to complete the necessary work on their existing salaries to make it possible for workers to be placed on SSSS.
He said some institutions were not able to complete work on the existing salaries to migrate to SSSS.
Mr Ankomah noted that so far, the Ghana Police Service is the only institution that has migrated to the SSSS.
He said in the meantime, public sector workers have received 10 per cent across board salary increase as part of the implementation of the SSSS until they are fully placed on the SSSS.
Mr Ankomah said before the SSSS, there were about 52 salary administrations under the government and it was difficult for the government to monitor pay budget and control the pay structure.
