The Minister of Communications, Sam George Nartey, has announced that he has reached an agreement with all three mobile network operators to offer special data bundle packages for all Ghanaians on five national holidays: Independence Day, May Day, Republic Day, Founders Day, and Farmers Day.
Speaking at the first-quarter press briefing, he confirmed that the test run for the Independence Day data bundles was a success.
“The Independence Day test run was a resounding success, and I am looking forward to the May Day offering as we celebrate the workers of Ghana,” he stated.
Alongside the new data bundles, he acknowledged several complaints regarding the quality of service provided by mobile network operators across the country.
“I have noticed several complaints about the quality of service from almost all the network providers in the country,” he said.
To address these concerns, the Minister has introduced a new policy to ensure technology neutrality and secured additional spectrum for MTN Ghana to enhance service quality.
The Minister also directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to offer additional network spectrum to Telecel Ghana.
These measures are intended to provide operators with the resources they need to improve their service offerings and overall network quality.
“We have acted quickly to ensure that this vision becomes a reality and that our youth are prepared for the future of work,” he added.
Sam George issued a strong warning saying within three months of assigning the additional spectrum, the NCA will begin enforcing strict quality service standards.
“Failure to demonstrate a marked improvement in service quality will result in substantial fines,” he warned.
He assured the public that both the Ministry and the regulator are committed to ensuring that Ghanaians receive the best possible customer service and experience.
“My ministry and the regulator are committed to the Ghanaian people, and we will ensure they get the best customer service and experience,” he concluded.
