Incumbent Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Samuel Nartey George, has eulogized his predecessor and Council of State member, Enoch Teye Mensah, who died on Sunday aged 77.
The former minister of state who served in various portfolios in his 40-year political career kicked the bucket in South Africa where he was said to be receiving medical treatment.
After serving as Ningo Prampram legislator in the second parliament of the Fourth Republic from 1996 General Election, the young and energetic Samuel Nartey George shockingly defeated E.T Mensah despite his strong belief in his grip on the constituency at the time.
Despite being a dye-in-the-wool NDC member, Mr Mensah later contested an election and won to serve as a Council of state member under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration in 2017.
While some described that action as a betrayal of the NDC, others commended him for proving to be a statesman interested in serving Ghana beyond partisan interests.
In a letter commiserating with the family of his one-time political godfather on Monday, October 2, Sam George said “The late former Member of Parliament for our beloved constituency who, until his demise, was a Member of the Council of state, served our nation in several capacities for over four decades.”
“We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his family left behind” the statement concluded.
