The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has challenged President John Mahama to uphold the values he championed only a week ago with the launch of his administration’s code of conduct in the Sammy Gyamfi dollar-sharing incident.
Speaking at a news conference held by the party on Tuesday, May 13, Mr Boakye said President Mahama faces a critical test of leadership and integrity following recent controversial statements and actions by the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Goldbod, Sammy Gyamfi, and the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine.
Mr Boakye slammed the Attorney General for threatening to play in the mud with a Member of Parliament who has accused him of corruption instead of addressing the specific allegations made against him.
“The President is being put to the test on his commitment to the very values he sought to espouse exactly a week ago when he outdoored the code of conduct,” Boakye stated.
“The entire world is waiting with bated breath on further actions by President Mahama, considering the actions of Mr Sammy Gyamfi and the Attorney-General,” he continued.
The NPP official further demanded immediate and firm action from the President, urging him not to reward what he described as irresponsible behaviour.
“We want to see some action from President Mahama. We call on the President to show leadership — to act swiftly, decisively, and not to give Mr Gyamfi and the Attorney-General a pat on their backs for this reckless conduct,” Boakye said.
