Samsung has introduced an 85” ultra high definition (UHD) smart television set worth GHC125,000 unto the Ghanaian market.
The luxurious looking gargantuan TV set has 8 million pixels, which is four times the current industry standard for HD TV sets, and therefore provides the highest quality pictures and viewing experience the industry boasts of right how.
The set comes with a silver frame around it and the frame forms the stand and speakers, unlike all other TV sets where the speakers are inbuilt. The frame also has a camera that the owner can use to communicate with the TV set.
It also has a device called One Connect Panel, which allows users to connect all source cables from DVD players, speakers, USB devices and others to the One Connect Panel and only connect one cable directly to the TV. That prevents the direct connection of many source cables to the TV as in the case of other existing sets.
The use of the One Connect Panel gives the 85” UHD TV a clean back without source cables hanging at the back.
Marketing Manager for Samsung Ghana, Richard Nunekpeku told journalists the set has smart features that allow users to control the TV with their voice and with the hand, so when the remote control is misplaced, one can use his voice or a wave of the hand to control the TV from a distance.
“It also has the Wi-fi Direct and Screen Mirroring which allow you to share stored information such as videos, pictures and other content from your other Samsung devices like phones, tablets, laptop and cameras on the TV set,” he said.
The Samsung 85” UHD TV also allows internet browsing with service from any internet service provider of the user’s choice. This means one can access facebook, various websites and do other online stuff on the TV.
Nunekpeku said the set is futuristic because it also comes with an Evolution Kit available for purchase. The kit allows the user to upgrade the hardware, software and all the features of the TV set over the next three years. It means there is no need to buy a new one for three years.”
In spite of the relatively high price of GHC125,000 (US$56,000), Nunekpeku said some Ghanaians have made orders but the company is yet to deliver to the buyers.
“Our target market is the high end consumers – those who have huge space in their rooms for TV sets and have money to spend on such luxurious and high quality equipment that give unreal experience,” he said. “We trust that we will find such people here in Ghana and across Africa.”
The set also comes with the usual Samsung 24-month warranty.
