Hans Adu-Sarpei is hoping Ghana achieves another historic feat again, this time marching into the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Ghana became the third African side ever to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, following the lead by Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002.
The Black Stars have already surpassed their previous mark at the tournament after reaching the round of 16 on their debut, four years ago in Germany.
Sarpei, one of the few players from the debut World Cup squad to have maintained their places in Milovan Rajevac’s team in South Africa is confident that the Black Stars would be able to go past the quarter-finals when they meet Uruguay on Friday.
The full-back is aware of the massive jubilation on the continent caused by Ghana’s performances and anticipates a crashing euphoria back home should the Black Stars beat their South American opponents at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
“We’re dreaming to go to the semi-finals and even the finals. But Uruguay is next so we have to focus on them. We know we are making Ghanaians very happy but we don’t know the level of celebration back home in Ghana,” Sarpei said on Monday.
“I think if we beat Uruguay, the whole country [Ghana] will break down and we want to do that. We are confident of making the semi finals.”
