Scripture is clear on LGBTQ+, don't call for God's anger on us, says the Federation of Muslim Women's Association in Ghana (FOMWAG).
The group is expressing concern about the ongoing public discussion on LGBTQ+ community.
They are worried about the future of their male children and the generation to come if homosexuality is approved in the country.
Citing examples from nations that have wreaked havoc following the same practice, they want parliament to swiftly pass the Anti-LGBTQ bill.
“We unanimously say NO to the practice of LGBTQ in Ghana. It is against our faith, we stand against it,” one of the members, Hajia Hawa Abdullah told the press.
No modern times exist for Allah, they say. And Allah is Allah and never changes.
The Ashanti region branch of the Federation of Muslim Women's Association in Ghana says they will show firmness to the word of Allah.
Regional President, Kabirat Ahmed Salihs says the Quran categorically cursed people who engaged in homosexuality.
“It is wrong in Islam,” Kabirat said.
A medical doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr Aisha Ali, says it is against them being mothers.
“Traditionally we don’t support. Religiously, we don’t support it. And as mothers, we fear for the future of Ghana,” she added.
According to the women, the word of Allah needs no update and many years from now, the scripture will continue to speak against LGBTQ+.
“We aren't negotiating our religion for anything. In a situation where the western education teaching goes against our religion, we give priories to our religion,” says executive council member, Hajia Halima Ibrahim.
They see no compromise; no retreat and they will continue to speak out against LGBTQ+.
But one thing is most assured - respect and love for others especially lesbians and gays.
The group is willing to rehabilitate them into Zongo communities across the country.
However, they want swift adoption of the LGBTQ bill to protect future generations.
