The government has opened tenders for the second phase of the Jasikan-Damanko trunk road as part of efforts to open up the northern part of the Volta Region, Joseph Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister has said.
Mr Nayan who was addressing the Nkwanta District Assembly at Nkwanta, said funds were ready for construction works to begin on the road.
The road which forms part of the eastern corridor highway would link up Dodo-Pepesu, Nkwanta and Damanko.
Mr Nayan said funds from the European Union would be used in the construction of the stretch from Dodo-Pepesu to Nkwanta while Nkwanta to Damanko would be financed from the road fund.
He said work on the two sections would be completed by the end of 2008.
Mr Nayan who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta-North, announced that work was progressing steadily on the electrification project at Kpassa, Bonakye, Sibi and Damanko.
He said electricity will be extended to Nyambong, Abrewanko, Agou-Junction, Nyakoma, Dogoketewa, Mangoase and others in and around Nkwanta.Source: GNA
