The Registrar of College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mr Adams Owusu, has advised secretarial staff not to be afraid of losing their jobs because of the introduction of computers and modern technologies. They should rather take advantage of these technological developments to update their knowledge to improve the professional competence, he advised. Mr Owusu gave the advice at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Secretarial, Administrative and Clerical Staff Association (SECSA) of the University of Education, Winneba. The celebration was under the theme: "The Secretarial, Administrative and Clerical Staff: An indispensable component of Human Resource in UEW." He noted that in the "era of demand for secretaries and administrative staff, it is necessary for each one of you to be versatile to adapt to changes in the office environment." Mr Owusu called for upgrading, life-long learning, training and retraining of staff to make them abreast with innovation in the office. Mr Theophilus Ackorlie, Deputy Finance Officer of the University, advised members of the association to see themselves as key and crucial role-players in the success and achievement of the UEW. Speaking of the topic: "Personal Financial Management," Mr Ackorlie urged them to always develop a personal budget and stick to it since that is the only way of ensuring value for money and more importantly to prevent reckless expenditure. Obaapanyin Oforiwa Adu, Assistant Registrar of the Gender Unit of UEW, advised the Association to work hard towards the improvement of the University, adding that it plays a pivotal role in the delivery of support services to staff, students and potential clients of the University.
