Minister of Defence and Acting Interior Minister, Benjamin Kunbuor admits that there are challenges facing the security agencies but says that they have not affected their resolve to defend the country.
This comes in response to the Nkoranza North MP’s revelations, on the floor of Parliament, that the country’s security agencies face massive debts.
Dr. Kunbuor, also speaking in Parliament, admonished the MP, Major (Rtd) Derrick Oduro, who is a Deputy Ranking Member for the Defence and Interior Committee for his comments.
He accused him of ignoring the strategic and security implications of putting out in the public domain, information of the strategic challenges facing the country’s security agencies.
The Defence Minister admitted “we have financial challenges but to put it in the manner in which he [Oduro] is putting it, creates a lot of difficulties.”
He expressed surprise that the MP, who has served in the Ghana Armed forces before and should understand the risks of putting out such information, would “mention the [challenges facing the] armed forces” when “he knows how his colleagues feel about matters like that”.
Major (Rtd) Derrick Oduro today in Parliament raised concerns over the challenges facing the Country’s security institutions. However, he was stopped from proceeding by the Speaker of Parliament, who insisted such issues should not be raised in the public domain.
