The clashes occurred when residents of Akuse attempted to obstruct people of Manya Krobo from entering the Akuse Township to celebrate a recent court ruling in their favour. The ruling placed Akuse in the Eastern region under the Lower Manya Krobo district and not in the Greater Accra region. However this morning, youth from Manya Krobo defied the orders by the police and went to the Akuse town for the celebration, resulting in a clash. Reports say at least one person was injured when the Police fired tear gas to disperse the irate youth. Eric Batcha a native of the area is disturbed about the building tension in the area. He told Joy News some of the youth were wielding guns and other dangerous weapons. Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP James Azuma Abass told Joy News no arrest has so far been made but warns they will deal ruthlessly with any group or person who attempts to disturb the peace. Joy News Eastern Region correspondent Benjamin Tetteh said calm has returned to the area.
