Samuel Mingle a 50-year-old private security man at Labone School, Madina, near Accra, has been arrested by the Madina police for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old pupil.Mingle was arrested on October 18 and was handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU) to assist in investigation.Briefing the Times in Accra yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of DOVSSU, Ministries branch, Inspector Irene Oppong, said at about 3 pm on October 18 the suspect called the girl who was selling ice water under the pretext of buying all her wares for bathing purpose.By that, Mingle succeeded in luring the girl into a kiosk and ordered her to remove her underwear.She said the girl initially refused but succumbed when Mingle threatened to beat her up.“He sexually abused her after which he locked her up, and went out,” she said.Inspector Oppong said on his return, Mingle subjected the girl to another round of sexual intercourse after which he gave her GH¢1.40 being the cost of the sachets of water he collected from the girl and warned her not to tell anyone about the incident.Days later, the girl fell sick and upon persistent interrogations by her parents, she narrated her ordeal to the parents who reported the matter to the Madina police.Inspector Oppong said a search conducted by the police in the kiosk revealed the girl’s underwear and scarf .He said Mingle admitted the offence for which he blamed satan.
