Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has stated that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, should be arrested immediately upon her arrival in Ghana, following ongoing extradition processes in the United States.
He said she must be taken straight into custody to begin serving her sentence.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, January 17, Mr Tuah-Yeboah expressed confidence that the extradition process would be successful.
“It is my expectation that her extradition processes in the US will go through and she will be extradited to Ghana, and when she arrives at the airport, she will be arrested from there and straightaway to prison,” he stated.
He noted that Ms Tamakloe-Attionu is one of two senior Ghanaian political figures currently in the United States, alongside former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of the NPP.
Mr Tuah-Yeboah stressed that Ghana’s justice system must be allowed to take its full course, particularly in cases involving significant financial loss to the state.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and breaches of public procurement laws.
Her former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Axim, was also sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour.
The trial, which began in 2019, saw six prosecution witnesses, with Ms Tamakloe-Attionu tried in absentia after absconding while on approved medical leave abroad.
