A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Ndebugri, has called on dismissed Sekou Nkrumah to take a bold decision and join the NPP, which he described as a more liberal party which is receptive to criticisms from all people.
Speaking on the dismissal of Dr. Sekou Nkrumah as the acting Coordinator of the National Youth Council (NYC) on Citi FM’s political talk show ‘The Big Issue’ on Saturday July 17, the former PNC man said if Dr Sekou Nkrumah finds the National Democratic Party (NDC) as a party populated with intolerant people he is welcomed to join the NPP.
“If he finds the NDC as a party populated in the majority by intolerant persons having dictatorial tendencies, the New Patriotic Party where I have finally found refuge is a more open, more democratic, more tolerant organization that doesn’t belong to one person or small group of persons in the name of founders and fathers and so on and so forth.
"So he may be eventually be invited to take the bold initiative he took to drift to the NDC whose so called founder clipped the wings of his father’s CPP…he shouldn’t find it difficult to take another bold decision to move to a more liberal organization which is the NPP that is receptive to criticism”.
Dr Sekou Nkrumah, third son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was dismissed as the acting Coordinator of the National Youth Council on Thursday July 15, after he openly criticized President Mills that he lacks the charisma, dynamism and strong will to lead Ghana.
Reasons of incompetence and lack of vision for the NYC were assigned for Dr. Nkrumah’s dismissal.
Mr. John Ndebugri former MP for Zebila cautioned that the reaction by President Mills after Sekou’s criticisms does not depict his characteristics as a humble, listening and a father for all president. He added that the action by President Mills shows that the NDC is an intolerant party.
He also admonished all outspoken persons who want to be critical in the interest of the nation to stay away from appointment from the ruling government.
“The Characteristic of a humble President is to take criticisms in your own strides, to try to be tolerant to all views both positive and negative so where you have been criticized I don’t think that criticisms detracts too much of the Presidents functions for you to react soo quickly by removing the person, it doesn’t cut you out as the humble, listening, father for all. The second thing is that when people also want to be critical in the interest of the nation they must try and stay away a little from being employed by the government”.
