Sellas Tetteh may not have achieved a dream of leading the Black Stars to the 2010 Nations Cup and FIFA Word Cup, but his new role as head coach of the Black Satellites has placed on him the important task to chart a new future for Ghana football by building the upcoming stars.Tomorrow at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Coach Tetteh, the man who has become famed for promising his teams a "super takeoff', leads the Satellites against Angola in the qualifying rounds of the 2009 African Youth Championship, a very important competition that has eluded Ghana for the past six years.The present Black Stars team has been built around players like Laryea Kingston, Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, among others, who achieved success for Ghana at different African Youth Championships. However, Ghana has failed to make it to two successive continental championships since Essien and teammates lost to Angola in the final of the 2001 edition in Ethiopia.It is the desire to end this drought and build the future Black Stars that drives the Satellites into action tomorrow, with the hope of achieving a good home result to power the team all the way through the qualifiers into next year's tourney in Rwanda. Perhaps it was providence that sent Coach Tetteh to handle the Black Starlets at the FIFA Under-17 Championship in Korea because the coach will be in good company, working with talented players like Ransford Osei, Ishmael Yartey, Sadick Adams and Daniel Opare who propelled the Starlets to the semi-final in Korea.Talent will be in abundance for the coach who has at his disposa1 the highly gifted Olympic Marseille youngster, Andre Dede Ayew, who remains doubtful for tomorrow's game, Liberty Professionals' Latif Salifu and Agyeman Badu who have lighted up the ongoing Onetouch Premier League.Not much is known about the Angolan team but the Southern African country have always produced very talented players and will provide a credible opposition to the Satellites, even on home soil. With his wealth of experience with the senior national team, Coach Tetteh has another fine opportunity to end the six year continental drought by giving the Satellites a "super takeoff’, a favourite slogan of the coach who last week left Ghana in a healthy position in the World Cup qualifiers.Source: Daily Graphic
