A senior citizen has lashed out at organizers of the programme for the centenary anniversary celebration of Ghana’s founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Seventy-year-old Joshua Ato Quarshie says the lack of emphasis on some key actors in the attainment of independence smacks of ungratefulness on the part of Ghanaians.
He said the lack of recognition of other freedom fighters and several other people in the programme but whose contributions and efforts played pivotal roles in the attainment of independence should not be glossed over.
Speaking to Asempa Today, over a wide range of issues including the 70th anniversary celebrations of the World War II as well as the 40th anniversary celebration of the coming into power of Libyan leader Col. Muamar al Gadafi, Mr. Ato Quarshie indicated that the contribution of people like Paa Grant and J.B. Danquah who invited Nkrumah over after preparing the grounds for him should be brought to the fore and honoured.
A member of the planning committee of the anniversary celebration, Prof. Agyemang Badu-Akosa, however disagreed with him.
Prof. Akosa believes as in the game football, it is often the strikers who score the goals who are named and therefore justified if Dr. Nkrumah is highlighted.
A variety of activities for the Centenary celebration have been lined up in a programme announced by the planning committee. The celebration begins on September 21 under the general theme of A Life of Struggle, A Vision of Africa Unbound.
