A man who cut the head of a seven-year-old girl into two at Tikobo No.2 in the Jomoro District of the Western Region and fled into a bush, is being pursued by the Police and a search party formed by residents in the community.
According to the Jomoro District Police Commander, DSP John Ferguson Dzineku, the body of the deceased, Keziah Blaychie, had been deposited at the Half Assini Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
He told Daily Guide that the deceased and her friends were playing near a public stand-pipe at Tikobo No.2 on Thursday, April 21, 2011, adding that one of the girls told the police that while they were playing, a small boy was weeding with a cutlass around the stand-pipe.
The girls said a strange man suddenly came from the bush, snatched the cutlass from the boy, slashed the head of Keziah Blaychie and quickly dashed into the bush.
As the children cried and ran helter-skelter, another man, Yaw Sarpong, now in police custody, suddenly rushed to the scene and started drinking the blood of Keziah.
Yaw Sarpong also smeared his face and body with the blood of Keziah Blaychie.
Some passers-by mustered courage and arrested Yaw Sarpong, and handed him over to the police.
The Jomoro District Police Boss said investigations were underway to get the assailant, while Yaw Sarpong, a 32-year-old farmer at Tikobo No.2, had been remanded into police custody to assist in investigations.
