Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia has emerged as the top scorer at the halfway stage of the group phase of the Uefa Champions League.
The 23-year-old, who plays for Russian side CSKA Moscow, has scored four goals in three matches so far.
He scored twice in the matches against Lille and Trabzonspor to catapult him to the top of the scoring charts.
The former Asec Abidjan player is closely followed by Alexander Frei of Basel who has scored three times.
Barcelona striker David Villa and Roman Shirokov of Zenit St Petersburg also have three goals each.
Other Africans in the scoring charts are Ghana's Andre Ayew of Marseille and Senegalese Moussa Sow of Lille who have two goals each.
If Doumbia maintains his scoring form he will become the first African to win the award since Liberian eorge Weah, who won the golden boot award in the 1994/5 edition with seven goals.
In the overall ranking, Ivorian Didier Drogba is the African with the highest number of goals in the Champions League having scored 33 goals - three more than Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o.
Doumbia is already the leading scorer in the Russian top-flight this season where he has scored 16 goals after 25 matches.
CSKA Moscow are currently second in Group B of the Champions League.
