Mr. Ben Amoabeng-Peprah, Chairman of the Greater-Accra Regional branch of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), on Monday reiterated the call on drivers to show respect and love for the travelling public, in order to win their confidence.
He reminded motorists that, without the co-operation of members of the public, the transport industry would not survive.
Mr. Amoabeng-Peprah made the call in a New Year Message to drivers during an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday.
He further urged them to observe traffic regulations to help reduce road accidents.
The Regional Chairman of PROTOA also appealed to the travelling public to reciprocate the gesture of drivers by showing courtesy to them.
Mr Paul Kwabena Badu, Chairman of the Accra Number Four branch of the Neoplan Drivers Union added his voice to the call on both motorists and the travelling public to co-operate to ensure the development and growth of the transport industry in the country.
Mr Badu disclosed that under a 50-million-dollar loan agreement between Stanbic Bank and Neoplan, the union would soon benefit from the supply of 250 buses from Japan to augment its operations.
He said the union would receive another consignment of 250 buses later this year, adding that by the end of the year, it would benefit from a total of 1,000 buses under the agreement.
The Neoplan Chairman asked members to endeavour to take good care of the vehicles when they arrived.
Mr. Badu thanked God for “His showers of blessings on Ghanaians,” and said they should be grateful to Him for ensuring peace and stability in the country.
