Six men have been charged at an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing electronic and electrical items valued at GHc47,245 from the AU Village in Accra.The accused persons are Stephen Nortey Tetteh, security man; Francis Danso and Samuel Asare, now at large, and Dominic Baidoo, all security men.The others are Nii Adom Baanor Taylor and Joseph Odonkor, a welder.They were alleged to have stolen two 21-inch TV sets, a DVD combo, five hifi systems, 17 electric kettles, blankets, cane chair cushions, curtains, towels and bed sheets.The court, presided over by Justice N.E.K. Osam, has remanded the accused persons to custody to re-appear again on June 25, this year.Narrating the facts of the case, Chief Inspector J.K. Anim, prosecuting, said the complainants are Captain Baah Achamfour (retd) and Nii Odoi Asumang, the Security Co-ordinator and the Operations Manager respectively, with Skones Security Co Ltd in Accra.He said Tetteh, Danso, Asare and Baidoo were among security guards detailed to protect property at the AU Village at Ridge during and after the AU Summit held in Accra.Chief Inspector Anim said information got to the complainants that Tetteh had stolen some unspecified household items from the village.
Based on that information, Tetteh was arrested and, on interrogation, he admitted the theft and mentioned Danso, Asare and Baidoo as his accomplices.He said as investigations were in progress, the Koforidua Police retrieved one 32-inch TV set with its remote control and antenna, two white towels, two blankets, two white bed sheets, one bedside mat, one white table cover, six foam mattress and four pieces of curtains from Tetteh's family house in Koforidua.The prosecutor said one loud speaker, identified to have been stolen from the village, was also retrieved from Danso's room at La Wireless, Accra.Baanor admitted that he had been called by Tetteh to the village at dawn to convey some of the stolen items to Osu for him. Upon the information, Odonkor was arrested and one 32-inch TV set and three hifi systems (Home theatre) that had been sold to him by Tetteh were retrieved at Osu in Accra.He said the management of the AU Village conducted a check in the rooms at the village and detected that the items mentioned above had been stolen from the Village.Source: The Mirror
