All five passengers and a driver on board a taxi have perished in a gory accident that occurred at Bonkwae in the Brong Ahafo Region, Tuesday afternoon.
All six occupants of the Daewoo Matiz, three men and three women, were run over by a speeding Metro Mass Transit bus that had been approaching from the opposite direction.
Eyewitnesses say the Metro Mass Transit bus, a DAF Neoplan, with registration number GE 9270 Z, veered off its lane into the lane of the on-coming Daewoo Matiz cab, with registration GX 2501-15.
The bus, which had been travelling from Techiman towards Sunyani, seemed to have lost control, eyewitnesses say, and gave the taxi driver no chance to escape the tragic collision.
Five persons on board the taxi died on the spot. The sixth person died at the Valley View Hospital in Techiman.
Techiman Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Andrews Okonenge, said three of the bodies have been identified so far.
The three bodies that have been identified are Yaw Joe, 40; Grace Gyamea, 50, and Yakubu Adams, 32. The rest are yet to be identified.
The bodies have since been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.
The accident vehicles have been impounded by police with the driver of the bus, Ransford Kumi, detained to assist with investigations.
