A six-year-old boy, Sylvester Owusu, is feared drowned after reportedly falling into the Anikoko River during a heavy downpour on Saturday, 18th May, along the Dunkwa-Aggrey Road in the Central Region.
According to family members, Sylvester was returning home from Zongo Market to Oteng Crescent after running an errand for his grandmother. While attempting to cross a culvert over the river, he is believed to have slipped and been swept away by the powerful floodwaters.
The torrential rainfall, which lasted from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., triggered widespread flooding in several parts of the Dunkwa municipality, rendering many waterways and footpaths dangerous.
A full-day search operation involving local volunteers and emergency personnel commenced at dawn on Sunday. However, as of the latest update, no trace of the boy has been found, and he remains missing.
Local authorities have since issued a public advisory, urging residents to exercise extreme caution during and after heavy rainfall, particularly near flood-prone areas.
Search efforts remain ongoing.
