Ghanaian soccer lovers continue to extol the Black Stars’ performance despite their 0-1 loss to the Samba Boys of Brazil.
Most soccer fans have since after Wednesday’s encounter, been discussing the match and its outcome with a large percentage praising the able manner in which the team held their own against the Brazilians.
Whilst most of the supporters had picked out Laryea Kingston as the ‘Man of the Match’ others preferred the performance of Haminu Dramani, whilst others too kept on praising youthful Anthony Annan for holding his own against the Brazilian play-maker Ronaldinho.
For once most Ghanaian fans were united in praising the Stars for a good work done even though they lost the match narrowly. The fans lauded the high level of concentration and alertness of the defence.
At the Ministry’s Taxi rank in Accra, a group of drivers was seen discussing the outcome of the match and they commended the players for putting up a good fight.
Yaw Danso, a taxi driver told the GNA Sports that the team played to his satisfaction despite the absence of about four key players in the team and the unfamiliar venue of the match.
Baba Abdulai, a businessman also commended the team for its fighting spirit and team work, which he said helped them in their performance despite the absence of Michael Essien, Captain Stephen Appiah, Junior Agogo, Shilla Illiasu and the injury to Asamoah Gyan.
He said the boys had made the nation and Ghanaians proud with their game plan which enabled them to hold their own against the dreaded Brazilians with their world class stars and was particularly delighted with the performance of the defence, pivoted around John Mensah whom he described as the “Minister of Defence”.
Master Sadat Weidaga Gariba, an accounting student of Zenith College commended the Stars for putting up a good show that has not only endeared them to the hearts of Ghanaian soccer fans but to other African soccer lovers, for holding the Brazilians in the African fashion.
He however expressed concern about the coach’s decision of pulling out Laryea Kingston when there was no body up front to cause any havoc in the Brazilian goal area.
The accounting student said that even though it was good that the coach fielded some young players it would be advisable that next time he tries some matured players especially strikers who have the confidence and experience of taking on any defence to slot in the balls.
Master Gariba said “we all have to thank Allah for the efforts being made by the Stars and for bringing joy and ensuring the people come together to cheer the name of Ghana devoid of political leaning and urged all to continue to pray for the team to be successful”.
