Government has allayed fears of possible military intervention as has been suggested by some persons.
The Minister for defence, Mark Woyongo has said government was not worried about comments by retired army captain Budu Koomson suggestive of imminent coup. He said his ministry had taken taking all necessary precautions.
He revealed that " morale is very high. The soldiers are not thinking of coup at all. There has been an infusion of arms and ammunition and salaries of the soldiers have improved.
He said he had gone around the various barracks and had durbars with the soldiers and was confident that there was no cause for any alarm.
He condemned comments made by the captain and others and said "we should not allow people to make provocative statements".
He said despite the various economic challenges the country was facing " I dont see why this should be a recipe for any coup d'etat".
JOYNEWS has also learnt National Security has interrogated retired army captain and IMANI board member Budu Koomson for comments he made suggesting the current economic and socio-political situation in Ghana provide fertile grounds for a coup d’état.
Capt Koomson told an Accra based radio station XYZ last month, the numerous labour agitations coupled with power and water crises, as well as schemes to delay the election petition case, could be used as a launch pad for a coup.
