Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Norgbey, has condemned military brutality on his constituents.
The soldiers invaded the Ashiaman community after their colleague was killed in the area on Saturday, March 4.
In a bid to the find perpetrators of the murder, the soldiers took over the streets of Ashaiman to brutalise some residents.
The killing of the young soldier, Mr Norgbey said, must be investigated.
"You cannot take anybody’s life into your own hands. It is never then, whoever has done that I want the police and the military to go after and arrest the person and to face the full rigorous of the law," he said told JoyNews on Tuesday.
Although the MP condemned the killing of the soldier, he vehemently mentioned it was equally wrong for the military to take matters into their own hands.
“But that is not to say that the military to take the law into their own hands by invading the whole Ashiaman constituency by molesting people, molesting residents of the community, preventing them from going about their daily activities. It is not done, that I human rights abuse," he said.
“You can’t just get up walk in a community because one or two people have committed a crime and you are looking for the preparators of such crimes and so everybody in the community has become a suspect all of a sudden it is never done,” he said.
The MP said the military have caused panic in the community as most of the resident’s movement were curtailed.
Meanwhile, he is hopeful the Speaker of Parliament will refer the matter to Defense and Interior Committee for a probe.
"They have to recall their men back to the barrack and I am making a statement on the flow, Speaker will have to refer the issue to Defense and Interior," he said.
The legislator stressed the rate of military brutality in recent times is worrying and must be looked into.
