The Speaker of Parliament Friday morning walked out of the Chamber of the House in protest at what she called disrespect from the NDC Majority side of the House.Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Rashid Pelpuo had asked members of the house to mend their ways and let orderliness prevail since in his opinion the law-making body had become too chaotic.House Speaker Justice Joyce Bamford Addo however felt slighted by the comments and asked the Wa Central MP to retract the statement and apologise. The Speaker said she was on top of her job and that contrary to Mr Pelpuo's suggestions, she had maintained orderliness in the house and that there was no chaos under her watch.Mr Pelpuo stood his grounds, citing a Zimbabwean MP as supporting his argument - an argument the Speaker rejected stressing there was no need to draw parallels between the Parliament of Ghana and that of Zimbabwe. The Deputy Majority Leader was however supported by House Leader Cletus Avoka who explained that his deputy was simply trying to draw the attention of the house to the disorderly manner in which members of Parliament make interjections while others were on the floor making submissions.Mr Avoka's intervention, according to Joy FM Parliamentary Correspondent, Sammy Darko, may have angered the Speaker who walked out of the House into her chamber.Mr Avoka and Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu followed Justice Bamford-Addo to her chamber and prevailed on her to return to her seat since the Deputy Majority Leader had agreed to apologise for the comments. On her return, Mr Avoka led his deputy, Rashid Pelpuo to retract his offending comments and to apologise to the Speaker.Calm has since returned to the House for business to resume.Correspondent Sammy Darko says the Speaker had become increasingly assertive and intolerant of unnecessary heckling even before Rashid Pelpuo's comments.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
