The National Youth Organizer of the Peoples’ National Convention, Abu Ramadan, has charged the judges of the Supreme Court to speed up the case brought by Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey who are challenging the validity of the results of the 2012 general elections. According to him, it has been frustrating to see the case brought by Raila Odinga in Kenya take off whilst the substantive case in Ghana is yet to commence. Mr Odinga, like Nana Akufo-Addo, is challenging this month’s election results in Kenya. The PNC man made this known on Sunday, at a Let My Vote Count Alliance rally held at Agona Swedru, in the Central Region. Mr Abu Ramadan explained that the delay tactics put up by the 3rd respondent, the National Democratic Congress, which was being countenanced by the Supreme Court, was worrying and frustrating. He wondered why the NDC and President Mahama, who claim to have won the 2012 general elections genuinely, would be embarking on bringing frivolous applications to the Supreme Court aimed at delaying the court case. "If indeed, the NDC and John Mahama believe they won the election, why are they involved in such delay tactics? Ordinarily, the NDC and John Mahama should be the ones seeking the speedy resolution of this case, so John Mahama can continue his Presidency. Is it the case that President Mahama and the NDC know they did not win the 2012 elections, and as such will do everything possible to drag the case?" Abu Ramadan asked. He warned that Ghanaians want a speedy determination of the trial and if by the next hearing, a substantive date is not set for the commencement of the trial, then Ghanaians would have no choice but to embark on a demonstration to press forward their demands. "Ghanaians want the case to start now. We have had enough of the delay tactics,” Abu Ramadan charged. Lending credence to the words of Abu Ramadan, Sammy Awuku emphatically told the Supreme Court judges that “Justice delayed is Justice denied.” He praised the actions of Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Bawumia, and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey for seeking redress at the Supreme Court, which he says have been followed by Raila Odnga and his party in Kenya. Sammy Awuku assured Ghanaians that by December 2013, “smiles will be on their faces because a newly elected President, in the person of Nana Akufo-Addo, will have been sworn in” to ameliorate the hardships they are going through.
