A vice chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says the success or otherwise of President Mills' administration can best be measured at the end of his term.
In this vein, he said Ghanaians and particularly party members and supporters must help the administration in its effort to build a better Ghana.
Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday on a variety of issues and in his private capacity as Ghanaian rather than any official position, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah said the appropriateness of assessing the president's performance at the end of his term does not, however, illegitimise the right of footsoldiers to demand jobs and better lives now.
He said party footsoldiers, like the rest of the nation, are the children of the "father of all" (President Mills) and their desires for improved lives as per the party's pre-election promises, cannot wait.
"No, no, no. They are not talking about whether the incumbent president should stand again, they are talking about getting me employment today, give me food to eat today, give me contracts today, let me see (that I am a member of the party in power to help all Ghanaians including me, so help me also.)...(If we say the 'President is the father of the nation, then they are also children of the father so why must some eat while others go hungry)."
Spio-Garbrah said general expectations management is critical in assuaging the demands of the people and it would be untenable for anyone to suggest that those making demands of the government were being micro-managed by persons behind the scences.
