Lionel Messi is the only player to win six Ballon d'Or awards

The Ballon d'Or has been awarded by the French magazine since 1956 and sees their editorial staff put together the initial 30-man shortlist.

The crucial stage of voting then goes to leading journalists from all over the globe, with one vote per nation.

As the footballing world digests Messi's record-breaking sixth Ballon d'Or, here's a breakdown of how the votes were cast across the various countries.
