Kotoko put nine players on the market

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have transfer-listed nine players, eight of them with varying years of league and continental experiences. The list includes former captain Aziz Ansah and midfielder Michael Asante, as well as recent purchases Samuel Addo, Nasiru Ghani, Kenneth Ababio, Osei Akoto, and Ali Ouedrago. The rest are Imbola Betah Sanjie and Samuel Owusu. A management statement inviting interest from “Any club” in the listed players said the decision to transfer-list them was informed by a current restructuring exercise underway in the club. The statement, signed by Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Director of Communications at Kotoko, explained that “Whilst the club was unable to renew the expired contracts of some of them, others had to make way for players recruited to strengthen the team.” The club had hinted a major shake-up at the beginning of the week following a spell of poor run on the local front. Kotoko lost four competitive matches, including the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Cup match to Ashgold and two consecutive league matches to bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak. They followed it up with another league loss to Tema Youth, and only last weekend managed a face-saving draw late into a league game against Liberty Professionals. The discomforting performance sparked agitations among the club’s following, some of who recommended the sacking of certain players and technical handlers. On Sunday, they face another difficult league assignment in Ashgold at Obuasi. Joy Sports sources say some of the transfer-listed players had already secured some deals. Striker Nasiru Ghani is out on loan to Real Tamale United, Midfielder Osei Akoto would now play for Tema Youth also on loan while Sammy Owusu heads for Berekum Arsenals, also on a loan deal. The club is reported to have signed on a couple of players, including defender Isaac Vorsah of All Blacks and veteran Emmanuel Osei Kufuor of Ashgold.
