Teofimo Lopez beat Vasyl Lomachenko via unanimous decision to become the undisputed lightweight division's first champion.
The Brooklyn born native who beat Ghana's Richard Commey to win the IBF lightweight title now holds all four belts in the division. Judges scored it 116-112, 119-109 and 117-111, adequately reflecting Lopez's dominance over 12 rounds.
The 23 year old started on the front foot to take the first four rounds by maintaining the distance and utilizing his reach and overall size advantage. He remained in charge until Lomachenko emerged in the second half of the 12 round fight.
Lopez made sure of victory in the 12th by showing more desire and landing the cleaner shots to win it. Lomachenko landed only 31 punches in the first 7 rounds. Lopez landed an average of 15/55 punches per round according to compubox.
Lomachenko came on in rounds 8 through 11, but Lopez closed the show by landing a fight high 50 punches, the most ever by a Lomachenko opponent.
