Credit union board members and operators have been urged to diversify their membership drive and cash mobilization methods to cover the least confident segment of the society.
Joseph Nicholas Afful, Brong-Ahafo regional field officer of the Credit Union Association (CUA), made the call at Dormaa-Ahenkro while interacting with board and executive committee members of credit unions in Dormaa district.
"It will take collective and concerted efforts by members of the various sub-committees of the credit unions to be able to identify and educate such obscured segments of the society and to make their savings conscious", the CUA regional officer added.
Mr Afful urged managements, supervisors and project officers of credit unions to inject into their educational campaigns positive image building and self-confidence to win those lacking confidence to make savings or access loans.
He lauded the improved economic status of the country and urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the congenial atmosphere and translate their investment dreams into reality.
Mrs Susana Opoku-Kyeremeh, Board Chairperson of Dormaa Chance Brothers Cooperative Credit Union, noted that slow loan recovery was thwarting the rapid growth of the unions and called for attitudinal change by beneficiaries.
She said the union had established nine satellite micro-finance societies in Dormaa district, which were given financial support to engage in agriculture.
Participants at the forum comprised board members, internal auditors, project and marketing officers from the Dormaa Chance Brothers Cooperative Credit Union, the Dormaa Teachers Cooperative Credit Union and Dormaa District Presbyterian Cooperative Credit Union.
