Springfield Exploration and Production (E&P) has secured the Deepsea Bollsta rig from Northern Ocean Limited (NOL) to lead the appraisal of the Afina-1x well in Ghana's offshore West Cape Three Points Block 2 (WCTP-2).
This collaboration, in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and GNPC Explorco, signals a strategic move to finalise the unitisation of the Afina-Sankofa oil fields.

The unitisation process is expected to bring significant value to the government and all stakeholders.
Scheduled to begin in October, the well test marks a major milestone for Springfield as it aims to become the first independent African oil producer in deep waters.
Springfield CEO, Kevin Okyere, expressed pride in this achievement, noting that it is a testament to the company's tenacity and commitment to realising Ghana’s oil production potential.
He hopes that Springfield’s persistence will inspire young Africans to pursue their dreams.
The project comes on the heels of a ruling by the International Court of Arbitration, which called for Springfield to take further steps in the unitisation process.
Springfield has swiftly responded, securing the rig and necessary technical expertise in record time.

NOL CEO Arne Jacobsen expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential for long-term collaboration between NOL and Springfield.
This strategic alliance positions both companies to deliver top-tier performance in the upcoming offshore drilling operations, with Northern Ocean's track record making it an ideal partner for Springfield.
The success of this venture will not only solidify Springfield’s role as a key player in Ghana's oil industry but also bolster the nation’s standing in the global energy market.
