We have learnt with utmost disgust allegations of assault on the Deputy Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba.
Hajia Gariba Boya has accused the Minister for Communication, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, of masterminding attacks on her in Tamale last weekend, and also claimed that Mr. John Jinapor, the Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama on the 16th of May this year, slapped her. An incident, according to her, she reported to President John Mahama, who was then Vice President, but no action has since been taken.
The allegations made by the Deputy Minister for Women and Children Affairs suggests that President John Mahama is also uncaring as far as women rights are concerned.
We call on Ghanaians to speak out against this culture of violence and in particular, on women’s groups to speak out against this alleged violence against the Deputy Minister, Hajia Gariba Boya.
We also wish to call on President John Dramani Mahama to investigate these allegations thoroughly to establish the facts of the case.
