The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nyiaeso Constituency and a campaign team member for Kennedy Agyapong, Stephen Amoah, has hailed the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries as peaceful, orderly, and a demonstration of the party’s unity.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Amoah expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the exercise.

“Our appreciation and gratitude go to all the relevant stakeholders who committed themselves their energy, resources, support, and prayers to the cause of Kennedy Agyapong’s team and to the New Patriotic Party. They helped make this whole exercise very successful, peaceful, and produced results that I don’t think anybody can dispute,” he said.

He added that, before making further comments, he wanted to reposition himself, just as others who participate in election hearings do.

“Just as my aspirant, Kennedy, did, as well as my champion and others, I would like to extend my congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for winning convincingly. That’s all I can say,” Mr Amoah said.

On the election process, he noted that results can go either way because human beings are involved. “The same people who were singing ‘Hosanna Kennedy Agyapong’ also supported the other aspirants,” he said.

Mr Amoah emphasised the peaceful nature of the primaries, particularly in his constituency. “The most important factor is that the election was conducted in a very peaceful and fair atmosphere. I witnessed coexistence, tranquility, togetherness, and positive interactions among all supporters, even though they were from different camps,” he said.

Regarding Kennedy Agyapong’s results, Mr Amoah said it was too early to fully analyse the outcome. “We haven’t really sat down to understand what happened. It’s early days. I don’t want to jump the gun or preempt anything. But what I can say is that the election was very peaceful and very successful,” he said.

He added, “As to how we came down, we are yet to actually find out and then advise ourselves appropriately. But then, for now, this is what it is. Whatever happened has happened. As a party, we have won. We have shown a very high level of tolerance, a high level of peace, a high level of readiness and preparedness.”

He further stated that, as a party, the NPP has demonstrated a high level of tolerance, readiness, and preparedness. “As a fraternity, we are ready to wrestle back from the governing party. That is what is important,” Mr Amoah said.

He also praised the respect and goodwill Ghanaians have shown for the party. “In the history of this country, I don’t think any election has been as peaceful as this. I am yet to hear of any incident, and that is my joy now,” he said.

Mr Amoah acknowledged that while some in his camp may be disappointed with the results, the overall message was one of unity and composure.

“I wouldn’t be happy that we lost, but I am happy that at the end of the day, my party, the New Patriotic Party, is witnessing such peaceful post-election posture or composure,” he said.

In the Nyiaeso constituency in the Ashanti region, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious with 379 of the 695 votes cast, while his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 221 votes.
