According to British broadsheet The Independent, Arsenal are considering a move for Stephen Appiah, the former Juventus and Udinese midfielder. The 28-year-old has been without a club since leaving Fenerbahce last year, and has gone on trial with a number of teams across Europe.Portsmouth were at one point interested in signing the combative box-to-box player as a replacement for Sulley Muntari, who left for Inter in the summer. That move fell through, however, and he remains a free agent after failing to sufficiently impress Harry Redknapp while training with Tottenham Hotspur last month. But Arsene Wenger is apparently willing to give the Ghanaian a chance, as the Gunners are sorely lacking depth of strength and experience in the centre of the pitch. If Arsenal should indeed offer Appiah an opportunity as the Emirates, it most likely be on a short-term contract that could be extended depending on the quality of his performances.Source: Goal.com
