Employers have been called upon to give the youth the chance to exhibit their potentials and stop requiring from them work experience of two to three years before their employment. The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Prince Yaw Donyina made the appeal during the 10th Anniversary of Brong Ahafo's first established radio station, ASTA FM at Techiman."If we fail to employ them after school, where are they going to acquire those years of working experiences?,” he asked. Mr. Donyina commended the management of ASTA FM for their efforts to help promote peace and development in the area as part of their social responsibility during the 10-year period of existence. He advised the staff particularly to introduce some decency on the airwaves, urging them to be careful about the words they use and the songs they play in order not to inflame passions.The Techiman MCE urged talk show hosts to insist on their authority to control the programmes to prevent their guests from using abusive and unhealthy words that have the potential to disrupt the developmental agenda of the area.On his part, the Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency, Hon Addai Simons, challenged ASTA FM to adequately prepare for the task ahead after 10 years of existence, since they have grown to differentiate the good from the bad."All your activities must be geared towards unity and development of Techiman and the Brong Ahafo Region as a whole", he urged.Mr. Addai advised the workers of the station to live up to their ethical and logical responsibilities as well as abiding by the social responsibilities of the station."Don't discriminate among age, gender, politics, ethnicity or religion to help improve the community.”He asked the staff to eschew their personal interests and promote national interest.The MP called on the Board and Management of ASTA FM to organize refresher courses for the staff to enable them to be abreast with modern trends in broadcasting.The Director of ASTA FM, Mr. Samson Yeboah Asiamah gave a brief history about the station and some of its achievements and contributions towards the development of the area.He maintained that the station was independent and objective in its activities to promote peace and development hence the listening public should not associate it with any religious, political or ethnic group.Culled from The Chronicle
