A pro National Democratic Congress (NDC) group has called on members of the party to ignore the call by some ‘self serving people’ for the dismissal of health insurance authority boss. The Young Democrats said while the President and his able appointees are feverishly working hard to transform the lives of Ghanaians, these self serving groups and individuals are also hatching plans to discredit many including Mr Mensah, the National Health Insurance Scheme, boss.A statement signed by the group’s convener Sam Atukwei Quaye said the call by a group tagging itself ‘alliance for the empowerment of NDC constituency branch executives’ on the President to remove Mr Mensah from his current post must be ignored. The statement said our checks have shown that an individual, who is lobbying to be appointed as the NHIA boss (name withheld), is behind this negative campaign. It added that the NHIA boss has worked tirelessly to transform the NHIS to its current level of global recognition and admiration and that even though the scheme had had some challenges it is out of place for anybody to call for the dismissal of Mr Mensah. The statement expressed the hope that all who believe in the Better Ghana Agenda will work within laid down procedures and stop destroying the hard won reputation of accomplished people. The statement said the NHIA boss since 2009 has successfully developed systems to link diagnoses to treatment, established an effective and efficient claim processing centre resulting in a deduction of a total amount of GHS 17.3 million out of a total claims of GHS 131.9 million submitted for payment in 2010 and 2011, which hitherto would have been paid.It said the scheme has also instituted a free medical care policy to reduce maternal and infant mortality, consolidated premium accounts, medicines list and prescribing levels, introduction of prescription forms to enable the tracking of prescription and dispensing patterns. It said the Young Democrats will continue to commend hard working public officials whose efforts are helping to improve the lot of all Ghanaians and urged those behind the calls for Mr Mensah to desist from their nefarious activities.
