The People’s National Convention is accusing elements within the Convention People’s Party of wooing its members at the grassroots even before a planned merger is consummated. According to the General Secretary of the PNC, Bernard Mornah, the CPP members with or without the consent of the leadership are going about the regions courting members of the PNC. He told Joy News’ Araba Koomson that such actions could undermine and derail the efforts towards a merger by the two parties. “In 2006-2007 the first attempt by the CPP to consummate this unity ended up at the Teachers Hall where some people said they were for this unity yesterday but today they are not for it. “Since then they have not been able to ratify anything and yet you will get up and you will realize that members of the CPP without the endorsement, or maybe I cannot claim fully, without the endorsement of the national leadership, are moving from one end to the other and in all these things it is PNC members they go to contact,” he alleged. He would not mention names of the CPP members engaging in the courting but said a formal complaint has been made to the CPP. Bernard Mornah said the CPP is not just looking for an alliance, but a merger in which the two parties will officially announce the dissolution of their individual parties and the formation a new united Nkrumaist party. But director of communications of the CPP, William Duworkpor insists the PNC is yet to make any formal complaint to the CPP. He advised the PNC to make a formal complaint and provide concrete evidence of the CPP members allegedly derailing the process so that action will be taken.
